The principle behind the South African born BEEP Blogger (Black Energy Efficient Pages) is based on the fact that the display of different colours consumes different amounts of energy on computer based monitors. The creators of BEEP cite a 2002 study from Roberson, who tested a variety of CRT and LCD monitors and found that an all black screen consumed less energy than an all white screen.
The idea behind the BEEP comes from a blog and a search engine beegle.co.za which estimated that a black Google would save 750 megawatt-hours a year. We feel every saving helps! We need to find alternative ways to keep the beer cold.In addition to the Beegle Search Engine, Beegle founders have included a direct link to the Eskom’s Load Shedding Schedule – for daily viewing/outage planning. We have also added an alternative Load Shedding feed to BEEP incase their direct link is busy shedding. Please visit them if you want to, it's your constitutional right to click anywhere on this page or on your own computer.
Should you require (on a daily basis, if you have power and your internet connection is working on that day):
* Power Saving Search
* Energy Saving Homepage
* Google Powered Search Engine
* Eskom Load Balancing Schedule
Then click here and visit Beegle.co.za (link should open in a new window)
Now that we have done our bit on load shedding for the day, we'll continue with the rest of this BEEblog in a way that we still need to figure out. Oops, the lights just flickered a bit, hang on just need to go outside and check if the generator got some petrol in...
